An undocumented immigrant is facing accusations of attempting to assault the body of a man who died from alcoholism in the New York City subway, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Felix Rojas, a 44-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was taken into custody in New York City and charged with attempted rape and grand theft.
Multiple news outlets have referred to Rojas as “The Man of Brooklyn.”
“A Brooklyn man has been charged with first-degree rape,” stated a report, highlighting the disturbing incident involving a deceased individual on the Manhattan subway.
Surveillance footage from a few weeks ago reportedly shows Rojas attempting to assault the body of Jorge Gonzalez, 37, after he had previously stolen cash and belongings from another man on an R train, according to police.
No other passengers were present during the incident, and this week, Rojas was booked and charged by the police.
DHS officials disclosed on Friday that Rojas had entered the United States illegally multiple times since 1998. Shortly after his arrest, he reportedly sought to evade custody upon release from jail.
New York City’s sanctuary policies typically restrict law enforcement from collaborating with immigration agents, leading to situations where undocumented immigrants facing crimes can often return to the community rather than being held.
