Attempted Murder Charges on Long Island
A man from Long Island has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a woman, believed to be his sister, in the face with a crossbow. The incident took place on February 13, according to Nassau County police.
Police stated that 21-year-old Sammy Sedom is the primary suspect. Officers responded to a call for help at a West Avenue residence and found a 28-year-old woman with severe bleeding from a facial laceration. The police investigation determined that Sedom was responsible for the shooting.
The victim was promptly taken to a local hospital and, as of now, is in stable condition. Sammy Sedom faces multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, among others. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 25 years for the attempted murder charge.
He appeared in court on Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded without bail. A temporary protection order was also put in place for the victim.
According to reports, Sedom had just returned from the gym when he tried to shoot the victim as she entered the garage. Police discovered an arrow lodged into the garage wall. During their search of the area, they found a box consistent with the crossbow used, as well as other items—specifically a Japanese sword and a computer—that were taken as evidence.
As of Wednesday, Sedom’s name did not appear on the Nassau County Jail roster, and inquiries have been made to his attorney regarding the case.
