No funny business here.
A 31-year-old man has appeared on a reality TV show focused on virginity, and he’s quite proud of it.
Ben Harris recently shared his experience as a virgin and how it led him to television—a topic that might make some feel a bit shy.
Encouraged by a friend, Harris decided to respond to a casting call for a British show called “Sex Therapy,” which featured a segment titled “Virgin Island.” Initially anxious, he was surprised when he managed to secure a spot on the show.
Describing himself as an introvert, Harris recounted his struggles with bullying throughout his life, stating, “It wasn’t as serious as others might have faced, but I often concentrated on how I looked.”
As a teen, he felt disheartened that girls his age wouldn’t find him attractive. He reflected on this, mentioning, “Despite my decent intelligence, I thought that the girls who physically repelled me wouldn’t be interested.”
Entering his twenties, Harris finally started going on dates, yet he felt perpetually behind. He noted that, although he had been on around 40 dates, his most intimate moment was just a peck on the cheek.
When the opportunity finally arose for something more with a girlfriend, he found it ironic that, despite sharing a bed several times, they were too intimidated to take things further.
For him, applying to the show was a significant step, especially since it was filmed on a stunning Mediterranean island. What did he have to lose?
“If nothing else, I figured I could undergo some therapy,” he wrote earnestly.
Filming last year, he met 11 others with similar stories. He expressed hope that the show could help dismantle some of the stigma surrounding adulthood and virginity. “Even if it doesn’t change minds, I’ve gained a lot from this experience, and I have no regrets about participating,” he added.
Harris isn’t alone in being vocal about his situation. A 39-year-old woman named Sarah recently shared on TikTok her own reasons for remaining a virgin. She questioned why she should rush into anything.
“There are those who think they look great. I don’t disagree,” the content creator mentioned, “But I wasn’t looking for a relationship in my late twenties or early thirties.”
Sarah explained she has come to terms with her virginity, saying, “It took some time, but I don’t want to disrupt my inner peace.”
