Murder and Confession in California
A man has shocked the community by admitting to being a “monster” after he killed his estranged wife, then went on to disturb her remains. Zarbab Ali, 28, was recently convicted for the murder of 25-year-old Rachel Castillo in Simi Valley, California, just before their divorce was set to finalize in November 2022.
Ali confessed soon after Rachel’s body was discovered in a remote area, having hidden inside her apartment before attacking her. He recounted how he stabbed her multiple times in the chest, wrapped her body in a blanket, and buried her in a shallow grave. But he later returned under the cover of darkness, dug her up, and committed further unspeakable acts on her corpse.
“I raped her just to confirm that I was a monster,” he confessed during a heartbreaking interrogation by police.
In what can only be described as a deeply disturbing defense, Ali attempted to shift blame onto his wife’s alleged infidelity. “This was the only way I could escape,” he declared, expressing his anger about her refusal to let him move on.
During the trial, prosecutors revealed that the divorce proceedings were almost concluded at the time of Rachel’s tragic death. “Our thoughts are with Rachel’s family, who have endured unimaginable pain since the day she was taken,” said prosecutor David Russell after the sentencing. He emphasized gratitude for the law enforcement’s efforts that led to Ali’s conviction, ensuring he would be confined for life, thus protecting the community from his actions.
Ali was found guilty of first-degree murder and is set to be sentenced on January 12.
