Police are currently investigating after a Rhode Island man was reportedly killed by someone hitting him in the head with a firework earlier this year.
According to Chief Gingerella, the death of David Ziegenfuss, 39, occurred on May 12th of this year, with police later determining the cause of death was a “blast wound” to the head. W.F.L.A.:
Mr Zingerella said it appeared Ziegenfuss and others had been playing with fireworks at a home on Pound Road when a mortar-style firework was placed on the suspect’s head and set off.
That type of fireworks It’s illegal in Rhode Island.But Chief Gingerella said his death is being considered an accident.
The incident remains under investigation.

According to KOKH, in 2022, “at least 11 people will have died and an estimated 10,200 will have been injured in fireworks-related incidents.”
“To prevent injuries and tragedies, it is essential that consumers know the risks associated with the use of fireworks. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to watch professional fireworks being used,” said CPSC Chairman Alex Hoen Sarich.
“CPSC’s Office of Compliance and Field Operations continues to work closely with other federal agencies to prevent the sale of illegal consumer fireworks,” he added.
