Man dies and toddler injured after being struck by car in Barnsley | Barnsley

A man has died and a toddler has been seriously injured after a collision involving a car in Barnsley, police said.

Officers are appealing for information and witnesses to a crash that occurred in the Wardsbrough area around 11.40am on Sunday.

A blue VW Polo crashed into a wall, hitting a pedestrian and a 1-year-old boy. South Yorkshire Police said the pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, died at the scene in West Street, while the boy was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition, the force announced Monday.

The man's family is being supported by specialist staff. The driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene and assisted officers, the force added.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact us.”
