Man dies in east Bristol after stabbing, police report | England

A man has died following a serious assault in east Bristol, police say.

The victim, whose name has not been released by police, was stabbed by a man on Stapleton Road about 5.40pm on Friday.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police at the scene began administering first aid and called for reinforcements.

The man was treated in a critical condition by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Southmead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that evening.

Formal identification needs to be completed and police said they are working to notify all family members as soon as possible.

A murder investigation has been launched and a major search was carried out across east Bristol on Friday night with the help of the National Police Air Unit in an attempt to find the culprit.

Attempts to arrest him are continuing.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and is in custody.

Bristol Commander, Detective Superintendent Mark Lanacres, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family of this man, who is being supported by specially trained officers and we will keep you updated as the investigation progresses.”

“A large amount of CCTV footage has already been reviewed to further understand what happened and these efforts are ongoing.”

A forensic inquest will take place this weekend. Stapleton Road will be closed between the train station and Robertson Road while forensic work is carried out.
