A man drowned in a lake outside SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Friday, the second death in a man-made body of water since the stadium opened in 2020.
Inglewood Police Lt. Syria Islas said the unidentified man, believed to be in his early 20s, entered the lake around 9:30 p.m. but never resurfaced. LA Times.
Police said a dive team was immediately dispatched to search the 15-foot-deep lake for the missing man.
The man’s body was discovered by rescue workers shortly before 11 p.m., who attempted CPR to revive him.
Islas said the man could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they had opened an investigation into the man’s death after Islas described the incident as an accidental drowning.
The victim’s name is not currently being released by authorities.
“We are deeply saddened to learn last night of the passing of an individual,” SoFi Stadium officials said in a statement to the outlet.
“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
