Pennsylvania State Police say a man dressed as the killer from the hit movie “Scream” killed his neighbor with a chainsaw.
Officer Anthony Petroski of the Pennsylvania State Police told reporters: media briefing At 3:30 p.m. Monday, police say they found 59-year-old Edward Whitehead Jr. with life-threatening injuries.
“Edward Whitehead Jr. was struck multiple times with a knife and a battery-powered chainsaw,” Petroski said.
Whitehead was taken to St. Luke’s Carbon County Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Mr Petrosky said police were given a very strange description of the attacker.
“The suspect was wearing an all-black outfit consisting of a mask of a character from the movie Scream from a few years ago,” he explained.
“As a result of the investigation, we were able to identify the suspect. The suspect’s home was surrounded by a perimeter, and after successful negotiations the suspect was able to get out and was taken into custody without incident,” Petroski said. he said.
witness Said The suspect, 30-year-old Zach Moyer, was Whitehead’s neighbor.
“This wasn’t just a random attack. They knew each other,” Petroski said.
Moyer had given the note to police as they were negotiating his surrender. The criminal complaint describes one of the notes that may explain his motive for attacking his neighbor.
The note said, “Ed murdered a woman and a child. Eddy Jr. murdered a woman and a child last summer.”
According to the criminal complaint, Moyer admitted to stabbing Whitehead in the head with a knife and went back to his home to watch a movie until police arrived. Police said Moyer’s sister told her that she had been planning to kill her neighbor for a week before the crime.
Investigators said Moyer admitted to hiding a chainsaw in the attic and a knife in a drawer. After obtaining a search warrant for her home, her black costume and mask were also discovered.
Mr. Moyer was charged with one count of murder and is being held at the Carbon County Correctional Facility. He had no criminal history in Pennsylvania courts.
Neighbors said they were shocked by the incident as it was usually a quiet neighborhood.
