Man Finds Missing Piece of Alaskan Airlines Plane in His Backyard

Debris from a Boeing 737 Alaska Airlines plane that broke off mid-flight was found in the backyard of a Portland man, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

After taking off from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, Canada, last Friday, a door plug the size of a refrigerator was discovered. I blew it away He jumped from the plane, prompting an emergency landing.

During the ordeal, the plane's cabin was depressurized, oxygen masks were lowered, and terrified passengers screamed and sent farewell messages to their loved ones. Fortunately, the plane landed safely without any major injuries.

Following this incident, the Federal Aviation Administration temporarily grounded certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft after careful inspection. In recent years, Boeing aircraft have been grounded in 12 countries after two crashes in 2019.

According to reports CNNThe airline announced Saturday afternoon that it had canceled 160 flights, affecting about 23,000 travelers. The airline then canceled 170 flights on Sunday and another 60 on Monday.

“Cancellations will continue through the first half of the week, so we encourage customers planning to travel to continue checking email and alaskaair.com for updates,” the airline said.

Additionally, Friday's flight was seated right next to the section of the plane that was blown away, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homemendy said Saturday.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy told CNN after inspecting the plane, “Fortunately there were no fatalities and no additional serious injuries.” She added that the flight crew will be interviewed by investigators.

Additionally, United Airlines canceled 270 flights this weekend and grounded all Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. “We are working with the FAA to clarify the inspection process and requirements for returning all MAX 9 aircraft to service,” the department said in a statement.

Boeing President and CEO David Calhoun said in a companywide email that Boeing is focusing on “safety” and the company's response to accidents at its 737 Max factory in Renton, Washington. He said he plans to hold an all-employee meeting to discuss the results.

“It is important that we work transparently with our customers and regulators to understand and address the causes of the incident and ensure it never happens again,” Calhoun said in an email.
