Man found carrying a gun in Bronx neighborhood arrested less than a day after fatal NYC shooting

Incident in the Bronx Following Mass Shooting

A man was taken into custody after he was seen walking in a Bronx neighborhood, holding what appeared to be a long firearm. This occurred less than 24 hours after a mass shooting claimed the lives of an NYPD officer and three others at a high-end office building on Park Avenue.

The unidentified individual was arrested around 12:30 PM on Nelson Avenue, according to sources from the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies.

As of now, he has not been charged, a law enforcement source reported.

A surveillance image obtained shows this man wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, white sneakers, and carrying a black backpack, while he holds a firearm in his left hand.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is still ongoing.

This incident follows a tragic event where 27-year-old shooter Shane Tamra attacked a prominent midtown skyscraper that houses the NFL and Blackstone’s offices. Around 6:30 PM, he opened fire, resulting in four fatalities before reportedly taking his own life.

The victims included NYPD officer Didalur, who was expecting his third child, Blackstone executive Wesley Repatner, security guard Aland Etiena, and Julia Hyman from Rudin Management, the building’s owners.

The assailant, who traveled from Nevada, left behind a disturbing notebook that suggested he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). His writing contained complaints about the NFL’s handling of brain injuries, urging further study into the condition in the wake of his violent actions.

In his three-page letter, he expressed remorse, writing, “Sorry. The league intentionally hid the dangers in its brains to maximize profits. They made us fail.”

He referenced Terry Long, a former Pittsburgh Steelers player diagnosed with CTE, who took his life two decades ago.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed on Tuesday that the shooter seemed to be specifically targeting the NFL headquarters located in the building. Investigators continue to explore the underlying motives behind this tragic event.
