Investigation Underway Following Fatal Shooting of Florida Man in the Bahamas
A Florida man was shot and killed in the Bahamas after an incident involving an off-duty police officer, prompting a criminal investigation by local authorities.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Cody Castillo from Crawfordville, Florida, was killed on March 21 outside Da Plantation Bar & Grill in Nassau. Reports indicate that a senior officer from the Royal Bahamas Police Force was involved in the shooting.
Wayne Munro, the National Security Minister, confirmed that an investigation is in progress. He stated, “Police have arrived at the scene, collected CCTV footage, and started looking into the matter.” He added that charges may be filed if evidence supports it, and a coroner’s autopsy will follow if needed.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson acknowledged the death of an American citizen and mentioned ongoing attention to the local investigation. They emphasized the administration’s commitment to the safety of its citizens but refrained from further comments to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Details about the identities of those involved or specifics of the shooting are still limited. Additional inquiries have been made to the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the U.S. Embassy in Nassau for more information. Castillo was reportedly in the Bahamas for work as a lineman with PIKE Electric, and he was set to become a father in August, as his wife, Mikayla, is pregnant with their first child.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family, underscoring the tragic nature of the incident as Castillo was away working to provide for his family when he was fatally shot.
