Chuck E. Cheese Mascot Arrested for Credit Card Theft
In a surprising turn of events, a Florida man dressed as a Chuck E. Cheese mascot was arrested on charges of credit card theft. This unusual incident unfolded in front of children and parents at the Family Entertainment Center, drawing a curious crowd.
Body camera footage from the Tallahassee Police Department captured the moment officers approached the suspect, 41-year-old Jermell Jones. “Chuck E., come with me. Stop resisting! You are in custody!” an officer can be heard saying, clearly trying to keep the situation under control.
The arrest occurred shortly after 6:30 PM on July 23, and it raises quite a few eyebrows. A young boy, just five years old, can be heard asking the police, “Are you going to take me to jail?” which adds a rather innocent layer to an already bizarre scene.
According to a statement from authorities, a woman reported suspicious activity related to her credit card after attending a child’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese on June 28. She claimed that her card was physically in her possession and yet showed signs of unauthorized use. Surveillance footage provided by her, it seems, linked Jones, who worked there as a mascot, to the fraudulent transactions.
Upon searching Jones, police discovered a credit card that didn’t belong to him. He claimed he hadn’t used it, but it was reportedly found in his pocket. Additionally, he had a small amount of marijuana on him and mentioned to officers that he was in the process of getting a medical marijuana license.
Jones denied any wrongdoing despite the evidence, which certainly complicates his situation. It’s not every day that someone dressed as a beloved mascot finds themselves in such legal trouble, raising questions about both the incident and the character behind the costume.
Interestingly, Chuck E. Cheese has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident. It’s one of those stories that makes you stop and think—how can something so silly also lead to something so serious?
