Florida Man Arrested After Human Remains Found in Suitcases
A Florida man has been taken into custody following the discovery of human remains inside two suitcases in a remote area, authorities reported.
Lucas Sander Jones, a 19-year-old from Indialantic, was initially charged with tampering with evidence, abuse of a human body, and improper disposal of a corpse, according to booking records from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. He managed to secure his release by posting a $7,500 bond.
However, jail records indicate that Jones was subsequently rearrested and is now being held without bail on a second-degree murder charge.
The investigation unfolded on March 28 in Palm Bay when police responded to a call about a sparsely developed property in Central Florida, often referred to as “The Compound.”
Upon arrival, officers noted a vulture circling overhead and found an abandoned black suitcase, which contained human remains. A second suitcase with additional remains was discovered nearby. Investigators linked Jones to the case after finding an Amazon package addressed to him in one of the suitcases.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Jones’ residence. They encountered both him and his girlfriend there. Notably, Jones had visible injuries but chose not to speak with the investigators.
Identity of the Victim
As of now, the identity of the victim remains unknown. However, police have indicated that the remains may be connected to 28-year-old Corey Lee Daniel, who had been reported missing on March 22.
Jones’ girlfriend told the police that she last saw Daniel on March 20 when she found him unconscious at Jones’ home. Later, Jones allegedly claimed that Daniel had left the house. The following day, the girlfriend stated that Jones asked her to drive to the compound, where she observed him disposing of various items.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to confirm the victim’s identity. Jones’ arraignment is set for April 21.
