Man in London Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting Girlfriend During Video Call with Barron Trump

Man Sentenced for Assault Witnessed by Barron Trump

A Russian man, Matvei Rumyantsev, received a four-year prison sentence from a London court on Friday for assaulting his girlfriend. This comes after Barron Trump, then just 19, contacted authorities during a FaceTime call where he witnessed the incident.

In January, the court dealt with Rumyantsev’s case, where he was described by a judge as “driven by jealousy” and showed no remorse regarding his actions. Reports indicated that he not only committed assault but also tried to undermine the legal process by sending a letter from prison, asking the victim to retract her statements.

The judge highlighted Rumyantsev’s attempts to shift blame onto the victim, saying, “Your lack of foresight and empathy was evident at trial.” He was sentenced to two years for the assault and another two for attempting to “pervert the course of justice.” There are indications he may also face deportation.

Although he was charged with rape and strangulation, he was acquitted of those allegations. The attack occurred on January 18, 2025, just two days before Donald Trump was inaugurated. Rumyantsev reportedly became violent after seeing an incoming call from Barron Trump’s number on his girlfriend’s phone.

Witnesses reported that Rumyantsev, described as hostile and intoxicated, physically assaulted the woman, pulling her hair and strangling her while making derogatory remarks. During the violent episode, he even answered the FaceTime call in which Barron Trump saw the chaos unfold.

The judge mentioned how this assault left the victim fearing for her life. She expressed gratitude in court, stating that she believed Barron Trump’s intervention in the situation was crucial. Her testimony highlighted the effectiveness of his response, as he dialed emergency services promptly after the incident.

A recorded call to London police revealed Barron indicating the seriousness of the situation, saying, “It’s a real emergency…I’ve just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s been beaten up.” When asked about their relationship, he downplayed the details, emphasizing the need for immediate help due to the violent circumstances.

The judge commended Barron’s actions, describing them as responsible and appropriate. Rumyantsev, however, expressed mixed feelings about the incident, admitting some jealousy regarding Trump while claiming sympathy for him, suggesting he was perhaps misled.
