Police Search for Masked Man in Philadelphia

Authorities in Philadelphia are on the lookout for a young black man who reportedly scared people while donning a disturbing Halloween mask.

A police press release included several screenshots taken from surveillance footage around the city as officers seek assistance from the public in identifying the suspect.

In one instance, the man is seen chasing a woman jogging in the early morning hours along JFK Boulevard. According to police, the suspect confronted the 40-year-old jogger and asked her, “Are you ready to die?” – a question that understandably sent her into a panic.

The woman attempted to flee, but in her haste, she stumbled and injured herself. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly ran towards a nearby SEPTA suburban station.

Other witnesses also recounted unsettling encounters with the man. One individual, who wished to remain anonymous, described trying to alert the jogger as the suspect trailed behind her.

“I was waving at her from across the street, trying to get her attention, but she had her headphones in,” the witness recalled. “When she finally heard me, she started to run.” In another unsettling turn, the masked man tried to enter a local coffee shop before focusing his attention on the witness.

“He appeared really confused about what he wanted to do,” the witness added, recalling how the man didn’t seem intent on anything specific. “So, I thought, ‘Let’s see if I can defend myself,’ and he couldn’t handle that.” She demonstrated her kick when speaking to a reporter.

A La Colombe employee noted that the unsettling presence of the man disrupted their workplace until security stepped in. “It’s really disturbing that someone feels emboldened to threaten women like this for no reason,” she said. “I really hope he gets caught.”

Police described the suspect as a black male between 16 and 20 years old, with a medium to thin build and approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. They mentioned that he confronted around six people during the incidents that day.

Anyone who sees the suspect is advised not to approach him and instead to contact law enforcement immediately. If apprehended, the suspect could face multiple charges, including terroristic threats and simple assault.
