An El Paso, Texas, man who was vacationing at a private resort in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, died after being electrocuted in a hot tub on Tuesday, according to reports.

El Paso’s local NBC station reported that Mexico’s Sonora state prosecutor’s office said the man, identified as 43-year-old Jorge N., and another man, Lizeth N., were in the hot tub at the Sonoran Sea Resort just after 10 p.m.

Prosecutors said faulty wiring may have caused Jorge to receive an electric shock, while Lizeth reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.

Lizeth was taken to a nearby hospital where he was told he had suffered burns caused by electrical shock, the report said.

She has since been transferred to the United States, where she is in critical condition, prosecutors said.

During the investigation, investigators spoke with a person who knew Jorge and Lizeth well, who said he saw the pair not moving in the hot tub.
