Man killed by subway train outside of Mets game

A man was hit by a train and then apparently killed himself outside Citi Field just as a Mets game was ending Saturday evening, police said.

Police said that around 6 p.m., before the southbound No. 7 train was pulling into Mets-Willets Point station, a train driver saw a man walk onto the footbridge and then lie on the tracks in front of the train.

Police said the man, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred just before the Mets recorded a shutout victory at home against the Marlins.

The incident caused seven trains in both directions to be delayed for several hours as fans spilled out of the stadium, according to the MTA.

An MTA spokesperson told The Post that regular service had resumed on the 7 line by 8:30 p.m., with some delays.

The Long Island Railroad, which also serves Mets-Willets Point station, was not affected.
