Man killed on LA's 210 Freeway while escaping from Home Depot immigration operation

Authorities reported that a man died in California after being struck by a vehicle on the 210 highway. The tragic event occurred Thursday morning in Monrovia, near Los Angeles, following reports of immigration agents approaching a Home Depot, according to Monrovia’s mayor, Dylan Fake.

Workers at the location noted that people started yelling, “Immigrants, run!” As per the Los Angeles Times, a man fled the store on foot, leaping over a concrete wall into the eastbound lane of the 210 Expressway. Minutes later, the fire department responded to reports of a car colliding with pedestrians. The individual was hospitalized but unfortunately didn’t survive his injuries.

The Department of Homeland Security clarified that the individual was not being chased by their agents. They mentioned that they were unaware of the incident until hours later, saying they either didn’t recognize it or had not been informed by the California Highway Patrol in a timely manner.

In the aftermath, roughly 50 protesters gathered outside Home Depot, waving Mexican flags and holding signs. One local resident, Karen Suarez, expressed her sorrow, stating that she felt bad for the victim’s family. She commented that many are simply trying to escape challenging circumstances for a better life.
