Tragic Shooting Outside Haltom City Stadium
A father reportedly lured his daughter and her mother to a stadium parking lot, under the guise of giving them money, before carrying out a deadly attack.
John Mbuyi, 30, shot and killed Raissa Satukila, 33, and her six-year-old daughter, Nathy, in a planned ambush outside Birdville Stadium in Haltom City, Texas, on a recent Friday. Authorities indicated that he had “carefully planned ahead” before taking his own life.
Upon exiting a U-Haul truck, Mbuyi directed the pair to a parking area, pretending he was there to offer them money. He then fatally shot both victims while they were seated in their vehicle, as reported by local news outlets.
The city of Haltom has mentioned that this tragic incident stemmed from an ongoing custody battle, with Mbuyi harboring a “serious grievance” against Satukila.
Police mentioned that the two victims knew each other, suggesting some form of family connection, though the full extent of their relationship remains unclear.
Investigators also revealed that Mbuyi was grieving the recent death of his father and had voiced “concern” regarding this loss prior to the shooting.
Authorities classified the incident not as a spontaneous act but as a “premeditated and targeted” act of violence. After killing the victims, Mbuyi turned the weapon on himself, ultimately dying in the hospital.
Local residents expressed their shock and horror at the tragedy that unfolded near the school.
Jack Hall, a bus driver who witnessed the aftermath, shared his sorrow: “It just breaks my heart to know that something like that happened in our workplace. I hope it’s not the kids that were on our bus because I know these are my kids to me.” He added that he can’t walk past the scene without thinking of the families affected, especially the young child.
In response to the incident, Birdville School District officials are providing counseling services to students who may be struggling with the emotional fallout.
