Parolee Suspected of Daylight Break-in
A man on parole is facing allegations of breaking into a home in California during daylight hours last week.
The Emergency Communications Center of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a 911 call from a resident on Walnut Street in Eureka around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The resident claimed he shot a man who had unlawfully entered his home.
The good news? The individual who was shot did not sustain any injuries in the incident, and officials noted he was not arrested related to the shooting.
According to the resident, the suspect fled on foot towards Walnut Drive. Law enforcement, including deputies and Eureka Police officers, promptly responded to the scene.
A man matching the suspect’s description was later found near W Street and Glatt Street with a gunshot wound.
Medical personnel, who happened to be nearby, provided swift assistance and transported the suspect to a local hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, as indicated by officials.
The suspect has been identified as Taren Joseph Ray Aubrey, 30, from Eureka. Investigators concluded from the evidence collected at the site and statements from witnesses and the victim that Aubrey had indeed forcibly entered the residence prior to being shot.
After his discharge from the hospital, Aubrey was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on several charges: burglary, illegal possession of a firearm as a felon/addict, unauthorized entry into an occupied dwelling, and a parole violation.
In related news, there was a separate incident in Florida involving a female attempting to break into a home before dawn. The homeowner warned her that he was armed, but she persisted.
Officials mentioned that the victim felt threatened when the suspect was shot, a conclusion drawn from the gathered evidence during their investigation.
