A man in Savanna, Georgia, says that after ordering an actual drill from the Chinese online shopping website Aliexpress, he received a printed photo.
“They sent me to me. The photo was what they sent me,” Sylvester Franklin I said WTOC, he has a printed photo of his drill.
But the only item of his order was wrong. Franklin also told the outlet that he had purchased a pressure washer from the website, but only received a single screw.
“I paid $ 22.97 to the pressure washer. This is what I get. It's a screw type,” he said.
Franklin has added that he has been back and forth with Aliexpress since he received the wrong item in November, but has not been refunded yet.
Aliexpress is a subsidiary of Amazon of China, a subsidiary of Alibaba in China.
In 2021, the US Trade Representative reported that AlieXpress has been added to a notorious market list for counterfeiting and copyright infringement, and the company has acclaimed it from Better Business Bureau.
Last year, Georgia's consumer protection sector received three complaints on Chinese websites. Like Franklin's dilemma, one of these complaints is said to include individuals who have never received the purchased items.
In another complaint, the individual gave a “fake tracking number”, had never received an order, and did not cost more than $ 400.
Similar to Franklin's situation, all three complaints have been contacted to AlieXpress for refunds, but they have not recovered money and encouraged them to contact the state consumer protection department. I did it.
Franklin says he's only $ 40 in this case, but he wants others to learn lessons from his experience.
“This is not good. This is really bad,” Franklin said. “This is all bad, do you know what I mean? Don't scam. If you spend money, I want to get what you paid. I just don't want to scam. “
In particular, the three individuals who filed a complaint in 2024 had to regain money after talking to the consumer protection department. Also, people can contact the credit card issuer and try to get a chargeback if they find it fraudulent.
WTOC also recommended that you check the status of a better business bureau before purchasing something online.
