Man proposes to girlfriend while flying thousands of feet in the air

One man decided to take his relationship to the next level, to a whole new height, by proposing to his girlfriend during a flight.

Pennsylvania CEO Sam River, 34, was inspired by the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie “The Wedding Singer'' when he proposed to his current fiancée, Lissie Alden, 37.

The Philadelphia resident first met Alden, owner of mental and organizational fitness provider MYNDY, at a Shabbat dinner early last year. As reported by SWNS news agency, the two felt an immediate connection.

“I almost didn't go to Shabbat dinner in February because I was tired, but my mom said I had to eat…I'm so glad I went,” Alden told SWNS.

“We've dated so many times before that when it really felt right for each other, we didn't have to wait,” he said.

Nearly eight months later, River has already started planning to propose to his girlfriend.

SWNS reports that while on a plane to Mexico for Alden's birthday, River took a chance and got down on one knee thousands of feet in the air.

River and Alden are both movie buffs, so the CEO wanted to recreate a scene from the 1998 comedy.

According to SWNS, without Alden's knowledge, River was able to smuggle a prop guitar onto the plane and exchange a secret code with a flight attendant to make the surprise proposal a reality.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, Alden and her then-boyfriend were on a plane from North Carolina to Mexico City.

River then took out his prop guitar and serenaded her with “Grow Old With You,” the same song Sandler's character sang when he proposed to Barrymore's character in The Wedding Singer. .
