Florida Man Arrested for Mother’s Murder
A man from Florida is accused of fatally shooting his mother following years of pent-up resentment. After the alleged incident, he reportedly set her body on fire, believing she wished for cremation, as stated in an arrest report.
On Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced that 23-year-old George Beamer was taken into custody, facing charges of second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a corpse regarding his mother’s death.
Beamer initially called 911 from his Fort Myers home complaining of chest pain and was transported to the hospital. But as he was being taken for medical evaluation, another emergency call alerted authorities to a fire at the same location. Firefighters arrived, subdued the flames, and discovered the body of Beamer’s mother, who had suffered severe burns.
Authorities later pieced together how Beamer might have shot his mother before deliberately igniting the house. Sheriff Carmine Marceno remarked on the professionalism and diligence of the investigation team, which led to Beamer’s swift arrest.
An official police report indicated that Beamer confessed to the detectives about killing his mother due to long-standing anger, claiming he set the fire because he wanted her cremated. Reports suggest he shot her once, then poured gasoline over her before lighting the fire.
During the investigation, Beamer alleged that years of abuse by his mother led to his actions, stating, “Enough is enough.” However, friends of his mother refuted these claims, stating they were untrue. One friend expressed disbelief, suggesting Beamer was using the allegations as a justification for his actions.
A former classmate of Beamer’s shared her shock regarding the circumstances. “We were completely shocked,” she said, noting her surprise at the reasons behind the arrest.
Beamer is currently in the Lee County Jail, and authorities are still investigating the case. The sheriff emphasized that his thoughts are with the victims and their families during this tragic time, assuring that efforts will continue to provide clarity and answers.
