Assault on DoorDash Driver in Jacksonville
A man from Jacksonville, North Carolina, is facing serious charges after allegedly using a baseball bat to fracture the skull of a female DoorDash driver during an altercation at a traffic light. Ominously, this incident unfolded when the driver honked at him for obstructing her from moving forward at a green light.
Around 1:20 a.m. on August 1, 34-year-old Kristen Phillips was waiting at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Gum Branch Road to make a delivery, according to reports. It seems she honked her horn because the vehicle in front didn’t budge when the signal turned green.
Phillips recounted that after the vehicle finally cleared, the man started following her, creating an unsettling situation. Once she completed her delivery in the Shamrock Drive area and headed back to her car, the same man struck her on the head with a baseball bat.
The suspect, identified as Stanley Shockley, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon that inflicted serious bodily injury, with intent to kill, as deputies noted. Following the attack, Phillips was rushed to the hospital to address her severe injuries.
In an interview, she described the traumatic moment, stating that she lost consciousness from the blow and, at one point, believed he had left her for dead. She referred to the incident as miraculous, emphasizing her survival.
Phillips suffered multiple skull fractures and a fractured cheekbone; she underwent brain surgery as part of her recovery process.
Law enforcement officials conducted a search at Shockley’s residence on Shamrock Drive, which linked him to the assault. In court, prosecutors alleged that he wiped the surveillance footage from his Ring camera, raising further suspicion. Shockley’s home was just six houses away from where the attack occurred.
A judge determined that he should remain in custody without the possibility of bail. Sheriff Chris Thomas expressed gratitude for the public’s tips and the detectives’ diligent work that led to the arrest.
“We appreciate the many tips and leads that the public has provided us with,” he remarked, acknowledging the commitment of the investigative team in facing the challenging case.
