Tragic Incident Involving ICE Agents

Recently, a 24-year-old man from Honduras lost his life after being hit by a car while trying to escape from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Virginia.

On Thursday, Josué Castro Rivera was reportedly on his way to work in gardening when ICE agents pulled over his vehicle. According to his brother, Henry Castro, they attempted to detain him along with three other passengers.

Authorities from both the state and federal levels noted that Castro-Rivera fled from the scene and, in a desperate attempt to escape, tried to cross Interstate 264. Sadly, he was struck and killed by a Ford pickup truck from 2002.

Virginia State Police confirmed he was pronounced dead at the scene around 11 a.m.

His brother shared, “He had such a good heart,” expressing their family’s grief over the unexpected loss.

According to Henry, Castro-Rivera had been in the U.S. for four years, working hard to support his family back in Honduras.

The Department of Homeland Security offered a statement saying that ICE was executing a “targeted intelligence-based operation,” during which they detained individuals suspected of being in the country unlawfully.

They claimed that Castro-Rivera “violently resisted and fled,” resulting in his tragic death when he was struck by a vehicle.

“For everything that happened to him, he didn’t get what he deserved,” Henry lamented.

The family has labeled his death as “unjust” and is planning to collect funds to send his body back to Honduras for a proper burial.

The Department of Homeland Security remarked that the incident was a “direct result of all the politicians, activists, and reporters who continued to spread propaganda and misinformation about ICE’s mission and how to avoid detention.”

There has been mounting outrage regarding similar fatalities during immigration operations, leading to calls for further scrutiny and investigation.

In another incident, a federal immigration officer shot a Mexican man during a traffic stop in a suburb of Chicago last month. Initially, the DHS reported that the officer was “seriously injured,” although body camera footage later depicted him moving around and indicating his injuries were not severe.

Earlier in July, a farm worker died following a 30-foot fall during a chaotic immigration raid at a marijuana farm in Southern California. Likewise, in August, a man running from federal agents was struck and killed by a car on a highway.
