A man is considering filing a lawsuit after a scorpion stung him in the testicles while he was sleeping at a resort hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Michael Faruqui, of Agora Hills, Calif., told KLAS-TV that he woke up with searing pain at the Venetian Las Vegas resort hotel while vacationing with his family on Dec. 27.
“It felt like someone had stabbed me in the genitals,” he said. “It felt like sharp glass or a knife.”
When he went to the bathroom, he found a scorpion and realized he had been stung.
“When I went to the bathroom, I saw a scorpion hanging from my underwear,” Falci said.
Because of the incident, he and his family checked out a day early and the hotel compensated him for his room.
Faruqui provided KLAS with several photos of the scorpion on her underwear, but said she did not know how the scorpion got into her room.
“I didn’t even ask how I got into the room. No one told me about any options,” he said. “It was under my covers.”
According to a medical incident report at the Venetian Las Vegas resort, Farsi reported the sting to the hotel around 8 a.m. and went to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a scorpion sting. He provided KLAS with a copy of the medical incident report.
“Everyone was shocked and no one believed it,” Falci added. “Even I couldn’t believe it.”
Brian Virag, the attorney representing Falci, said he is considering a lawsuit against the hotel over the trauma he suffered in the incident. He added that people should inspect their rooms for security when they first check in.
“When you check into a hotel, you expect to be safe,” Virag said. He also questioned whether the hotel’s protocols were fully followed.
The hotel provided a short statement to KLAS regarding the incident.
“The resort has procedures in place for all incidents and we can confirm that they were followed in this case,” the statement said.
The Venetian has more than 7,000 guest rooms and 3 million square feet of retail and meeting space.
