Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Sister's Death Over Dish Argument

A man in Wisconsin is facing serious charges after a tragic incident in his family home, which stemmed from a long history of conflict. Gerald Zimenez Rico, 32, shot his sister and injured both his parents during an altercation on January 22nd.

He admitted to firing a weapon inside their Milwaukee residence. Court documents indicate that he pleaded guilty to a range of charges, including reckless homicide and intentional murder, resulting in a sentence of nearly two decades under supervision.

Zimenez Rico had been feeling alienated and bullied by his family due to his unemployment. He claimed he’d been under pressure for years and couldn’t afford to join them on a recent vacation to Mexico. Upon returning home, his father confronted him regarding a pile of dirty dishes, which Zimenez Rico attributed to plumbing issues. During this confrontation, his 22-year-old sister, Jocelyn, supported their father’s words.

Feeling provoked, Zimenez Rico drew a gun and fired, initially hitting his father and then shooting his sister. He later recounted that his sister had reached for a knife, prompting him to shoot her to protect himself. Tragically, she was hit multiple times and died right there.

He also shot his mother as she entered the room, expressing later that he hadn’t meant to hurt her, yet he couldn’t explain his actions. Fortunately, his parents survived the ordeal, though they were hospitalized due to their injuries.

A few hours post-incident, Zimenez Rico walked into a police station and confessed. Jocelyn is remembered as a loving mother, fiancée, and daughter. Her family noted that she had aspirations of becoming a nurse and cherished her three-year-old daughter, Melanie, who was described as her entire world.

In her memory, a fundraiser was initiated, reportedly raising over $18,700 to support her family.
