Incident at CIA Headquarters
On Thursday, security personnel shot a woman who was running towards the gates of the CIA’s headquarters, located near Washington, D.C., after she failed to heed their commands to stop. Subsequent to this, she was taken into custody, as reported by an anonymous source familiar with the situation.
Sources indicated that checks of public records reveal the suspects—as young American citizens—have prior incidents related to driving under the influence.
A spokesperson for the CIA had previously stated that the security staff had arrested an individual outside the main entrance, who was reportedly “engaged to someone.” However, the spokesperson did not confirm whether the shooting struck the suspect.
While details about the attack on the woman remain unclear, it has been confirmed that she is in stable condition following the incident, which took place around 4 a.m. (0800 GMT).
Earlier reports from NBC News suggested that the suspect had been shot dead, citing insider information.
The woman allegedly drove through the outbound lane towards the main entrance. Despite security’s attempts to intercept her, she continued toward the gate and set her vehicle on fire, according to sources.
It’s noted that her vehicle never entered the CIA compound, and fortunately, the security guards did not sustain injuries.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the matter.
In light of the incident, the CIA has closed the main gate of its Langley facility and advised employees to find alternative routes.
This event follows a tragic incident where two staff members from the Israeli embassy were killed by a lone gunman in downtown Washington on Wednesday night. Sources have stated there’s no evidence linking the two events.
The CIA issued a notification via Twitter reminding that the main gate would remain closed until further notice, advising the use of alternative routes.
