A man from Florida reportedly told authorities he shot his mother and then set her on fire because he wanted her to be cremated.
George Beamer, 23, confessed to the shocking act after claiming he had been holding onto anger towards his mother for years, alleging she had sexually abused him. This information came to light via a police report.
Beamer initially called 911 from his home in Fort Myers, claiming he was experiencing chest pains. However, while he was taken to the hospital, firefighters were dispatched to deal with a fire at the same location.
Once there, they discovered a woman’s body in the kitchen, severely burned, as noted in the indictment.
During questioning, Beamer purportedly admitted to shooting his mother and afterward pouring gasoline on her body before igniting it.
He claimed she had expressed a desire to be cremated posthumously.
Despite Beamer’s assertions, friends of the family contend that the allegations of abuse are unfounded. One unnamed friend stated, “That would never happen… I can’t buy it. I’ll never buy it. He’s using it as a defense to think there’s even a slight chance this is justified.”
The friend also pondered what medication Beamer might have been taking that day upon learning of the incident.
Beamer now faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a corpse. He is currently being held at Lee County Jail.
Former classmate Madison Edwards expressed shock at the news, saying she didn’t expect the circumstances that led to his incarceration.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno described the situation as “one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable,” praising the first responders for their prompt and thorough efforts in handling the case.
In a statement, Marceno expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, emphasizing the importance of providing them with answers as they navigate this tragedy.
