Alabama Man Charged with Murder After Disturbing Incident
A man from Alabama, Thomas Steele, 47, has been arrested and is facing two counts of murder after allegedly decapitating his grandmother and aunt with a chainsaw. His mugshot captures a chilling grin, which adds a layer of eeriness to this already horrifying story.
The bodies of Christy Deloach, 65, and Dora Boone, 85, were discovered in their Mobile home on a Monday, shortly after a 911 call was made. According to a court complaint, which was acquired by NBC 15, the family had been concerned for Steele’s mental state as he appeared to be acting unusually after stopping his medication.
In the call, an aunt reported that Steele had given away his belongings and was behaving erratically. She expressed uncertainty about what to do and described him as being calm yet not violent. “He’s following God,” she said, but there was a palpable tension in her voice as she communicated her concern for his wellbeing.
However, just a couple of hours after her call, police arrived at the residence and found both women deceased, with Steele supposedly waiting outside. This gruesome scene raises all sorts of questions about what had transpired in those hours.
Mobile County District Attorney, Keith Blackwood, stated that Steele lived with both victims at the time of their deaths. During a bond hearing, when asked about legal representation, Steele unexpectedly replied, “No. Kill him!”—an unsettling outburst that hinted at his mental instability.
Glenn Davidson, the public defender assigned to Steele, acknowledged that his client was likely still experiencing a state of psychosis and emphasized the need for a mental health evaluation. There remains ambiguity around a potential insanity plea, but Davidson suggested that all signs point in that direction.
As of now, Steele has not entered a plea, and it seems we’re left waiting to see how this unsettling case unfolds amidst all the complexities surrounding mental health.
