A man from California is facing serious allegations of a peculiar theft plot involving Lego sets that, according to police, fell apart gradually.

Jarrell Augustine, 28, from Paramount, is accused by Irvine police of purchasing Lego sets from Target, extracting valuable minifigures and components, and then returning the boxes stuffed with dried pasta instead of the original contents.

Law enforcement officials believe he is linked to approximately 70 thefts nationwide, with losses estimated at around $34,000.

Detectives utilized surveillance footage to identify Augustine as the primary suspect. He has since been arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of grand larceny.

In a twist to this story, police shared insights through social media, humorously warning about the unusual strategy. They quipped, “If your master plan includes swapping Legos for linguine, we can guarantee your plan will be cooked al dente.”

Footage provided by police shows Augustine taking Lego sets off a store shelf before making his escape.

Following the arrest, officers could be seen on body camera video detaining him. The strange circumstances also garnered reactions online, with some users finding it amusing.

Comments ranged from light-hearted jokes to bafflement, with one person saying, “There was a lot to eat in this case.
