Man Sentenced for Threats Against President
A man, who was convicted for making threats against former President Donald Trump and others, has faced sentencing and was released before further legal issues emerged.
Diedrich Holgate, 47 years old, was given an 18-month prison sentence for his initial threat made while Trump was campaigning for the presidency in 2024.
In a disturbing string of incidents, Holgate allegedly threatened the president multiple times through social media posts, phone calls, and voicemails directed at the U.S. Secret Service. He reportedly stated, “I’m going to kill them all,” and emphasized that he had no preference over who were to die, be it Trump or Biden. “We’ll hang them all for treason,” he said, according to legal documents.
When pressed about specific targets in a phone call, Holgate named various officials, insisting, “I have the right to kill the president. I want to kill you.”
Serving his sentence starting January 21 at the Northwest Regional Reentry Center in Portland, Holgate was also subjected to supervised release. However, he was soon rearrested after authorities suspected he was still issuing threats. Reports indicated he was removed from the facility for vaping in the bathroom.
According to testimony from federal probation officer Diana Reeses, Holgate sent anywhere from 20 to 40 threatening messages on a daily basis. In one alarming message, he implored, “Trump forgive me or I’ll kill him!!!!” He further expressed his intentions to harm, saying, “I’m done playing. Everyone’s dead, dead, dead.”
Reeses noted that he frequently refused to comply with housing regulations and missed appointments related to his probation.
In a related note, a man with the same name in Austin, Texas, was also arrested in 2017 for threatening a police officer and his family over alleged violations of constitutional rights.
Holgate has been ordered to remain in custody pending the next court hearing.
