Clovis Police Investigate Home Intruder Shooting
The Clovis Police Department received a 911 call shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Friday from a residence located in the 2500 block of East 7th Street.
A 20-year-old man, who made the call, reported that he had been shot by an intruder who entered his home and mentioned that he had also shot the person who broke in.
This incident marks the second fatal shooting in Clovis within the week, a city situated about 3.5 hours east of Albuquerque.
At the time of the call, the man was hiding in a closet with a woman.
Emergency services quickly arrived, and the shooting victim was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center.
Another individual, identified as 20-year-old Kaylin Parker, was present in the home and also sustained injuries. However, his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, and he was taken to the same medical center.
Authorities have established a Serious Crimes Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Earlier in the week, on December 29, a 15-year-old boy was also shot. That 911 call came around 3:30 p.m., and, unfortunately, the boy did not survive after being taken to Plains Regional Medical Center.
Police later learned that the boy and a friend were reportedly playing with guns in a bedroom, with witnesses saying that one of the firearms seemed to be unloaded at that moment.
After the shooting, the victim’s friends fled while taking the gun with them. The shooter has been identified as a 16-year-old, leading to a warrant being filed for various charges, including manslaughter of a minor.
The shooter was arrested on December 31 and is now in a juvenile detention center.
