Westchester County Woman Charged with Murder

A woman from Westchester County is on trial for allegedly torturing her boyfriend so severely that he lost 50 pounds. Authorities reported that the crime scene was shocking enough that the suspect’s cousin decided to contact the police. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Concetta Morton, was reportedly subjected to months of brutal treatment before her death in September 2023.

Kenya Tilford, 41, now faces first-degree murder charges. Prosecutors revealed that Morton, who had development disabilities, was left to suffer in neglect for days leading up to the murder.

Interestingly, Tilford attempted to reach out for help to dispose of the body, but even her relatives refused to assist her.

During the trial in White Plains, prosecutor Lana Hochheiser described the victim’s fear, saying, “He felt sick, scared—frankly terrified.” The cousin later helped Tilford check into a motel before going to report the situation to the police.

This case represents a significant moment for the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, as it marks the first time they have filed first-degree murder charges related to a torture murder.

Hochheiser mentioned that Tilford is also charged with sexually assaulting two other women. It’s alleged that she abused Morton for about four months before the killing, spending an additional four days trying to conceal the crime.

Tilford reportedly bought a chainsaw and paid a friend $1,000 to aid her, even reaching out to her cousin for help in ending the situation.

On September 15, 2023, police arrested Tilford at a motel where she had locked herself away. What they discovered at her New Rochelle home was particularly disturbing.

“They were hit by a dreadful smell and found Concetta’s body in a plastic container,” Hochheiser explained, adding that the victim was so decomposed that her face was unrecognizable.

According to the prosecutor, Morton was tied with yellow rope, almost completely undressed, and had a plastic bag over her head. Shockingly, her legs were bound, and her skin was deteriorating.

Police also found a chainsaw nearby, along with surgical gloves and cleaning supplies, which linked Tilford to the crime scene.

Prosecutors emphasized that Morton was particularly vulnerable due to her cognitive and physical disabilities stemming from her premature birth and substance exposure.

“She sought independence and love,” Hochheiser remarked. “This made her a prime target for someone like Tilford.”

Evidence also suggested that Tilford had recorded some of the abuse. Hochheiser noted, “You’ll see Concetta in a chair at Tilford’s house, disheveled, with blood on her lips and a trash bag over her shoulder.”

Allegedly, this wasn’t an isolated incident. In 2021, Tilford was also accused of abusing another woman known as “D,” who described being sexually assaulted and threatened multiple times. Another victim, “M,” was reportedly strangled and beaten while being coerced into performing for explicit videos.

In her defense, Tilford’s lawyer, Rachel Firasto, urged the jury to focus solely on the factual evidence instead of the grim details being presented. “You promised to judge this case based on the facts alone,” she stated, emphasizing that no direct evidence linking Tilford to the crime had yet been shown.
