New Hampshire Standoff with Sex Offender

A sex offender in New Hampshire reacted violently when police tried to arrest him on outstanding warrants, launching fireworks at the officers during a chaotic standoff.

Rory Robertson, 46, reportedly left his residence in Durham around 6 a.m. on Monday. When officers attempted to intervene, he sped away and barricaded himself inside his home, as stated by the Durham Police Department.

Ignoring multiple commands from law enforcement, Robertson began firing fireworks at the officers and parked police vehicles outside. This included one particularly dangerous “cannonball-shaped firework” that nearly struck an officer before detonating under a police cruiser.

The fireworks display led police to issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. Authorities reported that Robertson exited the house shortly after 8 a.m. He had several outstanding warrants related to breach of bail and theft.

During the confrontation, law enforcement noted that Robertson lunged at them before they subdued him with non-lethal pepperball rounds. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.

Robertson received treatment for minor injuries before being taken to the Strafford County Jail. Officials mentioned that he had several opportunities to surrender prior to the standoff.

Alongside his existing charges, Robertson now faces additional accusations of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and criminal intimidation. Records reveal he was convicted of felony sexual assault in 2009. Furthermore, it has been indicated that he is expected in court in October on separate charges of stalking and sexual assault from incidents in 2024.

The identity of Robertson’s attorney was not immediately available.
