A man with a knife was apprehended after an encounter with a crew member on the Brooklyn set of Michael B. Jordan’s “Miami Vice ’85” on Friday night, as reported by the police.
Identified as Alex Perez, 23, he reportedly disrupted the film’s production near Bay Parkway and McDonald Avenue at about 11:15 p.m., according to the NYPD.
During a verbal altercation with a 43-year-old production staff member, Perez allegedly produced a knife, prompting concerns for the staffer’s safety, police said.
The NYPD stated that the individual was taken into custody without any issues, and the weapon was recovered.
According to reports, Perez brandished a large butcher knife during the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported following the clash.
Perez, a Brooklyn resident, faces charges for second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He has previous arrests linked to gang-related activities, assault with a firearm, and burglary, among other crimes.
“Miami Vice ’85,” which features Jordan alongside Austin Butler, is currently being filmed in various locations throughout New York City and New Jersey as part of the reboot of the iconic detective series.
The crime drama is directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for “Top Gun: Maverick.” Jordan plays Ricardo Tubbs opposite Butler, who portrays James “Sonny” Crockett, with both actors spotted filming nighttime scenes in Brooklyn.
Earlier this month, Jordan also filmed scenes for the remake in Wayne, NJ, where parts of the Preakness Shopping Center were transformed into an ’80s Miami-style streetscape, complete with palm trees and retro shops.
The original “Miami Vice” ran on NBC from 1984 to 1989 and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives tackling crime in South Florida.
The Hollywood reboot is set for release in 2028.
