Violent Court Attack in Manhattan
A man armed with a knife launched an attack on court officers in a Manhattan court, leaving many shocked. Jonathan Wall, 37, apparently planned this violent act, bringing along a notebook filled with unsettling handwritten notes, according to prosecutors.
During the incident on a Monday morning, Wall scribbled phrases like “giving freedom or giving me death” in his notebook. “One of the pages had ‘gives me freedom and gives me death’ written in large letters,” noted Manhattan assistant district attorney Taylor Holland during a court hearing. Other notes expressed various grievances regarding the police and judicial system.
As Wall faced charges for attempted murder and assault, over 50 court officials gathered in the courtroom. He was taken into custody without bail at Rikers Island. Prosecutors revealed that one court officer had sustained two stab wounds—one on the face and another on the neck.
Interestingly, if the weapon had been a straight edge knife, the attack could have ended much more tragically. Court records show Wall had a troubled history with the judicial system, which a judge recognized after years of encounters.
Video footage captured Wall seemingly unfazed as he passed through security at the courthouse before unleashing his attack. “We don’t tolerate that in Manhattan,” said District Attorney Alvin Bragg after Wall’s arrest, expressing gratitude for the daily efforts of court officials.
