Man With Dementia Goes Missing, Reportedly Discovered In Freezer At Assisted Living Home

Missing 83-Year-Old Found Dead in Florida Nursing Home Freezer

Authorities have reported that an 83-year-old man, who had been missing for two weeks from a nursing home in Florida, was discovered dead in a walk-in freezer at the facility. This tragic situation involves William Eugene Ray, who disappeared from his room at Waverly Assisted Living and Memory Care in Trinity.

Ray’s family placed him in the facility in May due to signs of dementia. His daughter, Kristen Spencer, had installed a Ring camera in his room to monitor him when he wasn’t there. Recently, she observed her father’s growing confusion, prompting her to look at the camera footage. It was then that she realized he was not in his room.

Spencer recounted, “I checked the Ring camera the following morning, and the light was on, but he was gone.” She promptly alerted her mother and the nursing home, who later informed her that her father had been found in the freezer.

Spencer described her shock when she first heard about the discovery, saying, “The staff member told me, ‘He’s in the freezer.’ I was left wondering what that even meant.” The Pasco Sheriff’s Office responded to the situation, and Ray was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Initial reports suggest that his death may have been accidental, and there are currently no signs of criminal activity.

After reviewing the footage, Spencer noted that her father left the room at around 12:30 a.m., several hours before his body was discovered. She expressed a strong desire for more clarity surrounding the circumstances of his tragic death. She mentioned that there had been no initial issues when her father first arrived at the facility, saying, “At first, everything seemed fine. Over time, though, concerns began to arise.”

Spencer also questioned whether her father would have been found if she hadn’t reached out to the facility. “If we hadn’t called, when would they have noticed?” she asked, raising valid points about the institution’s protocols.

A spokesperson for Waverly stated that they were unable to comment extensively on the incident but highlighted that residents and their families should not have to endure misleading narratives. The facility assured cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Attempts to reach the Pasco Sheriff’s Office for further comments were unsuccessful before publication.
