Investigations Underway in Chicago Train Fire Incident
A man, 50 years old, is under investigation following a shocking incident on a Chicago train Monday where a woman was reportedly set on fire. Notably, this individual has a substantial arrest history and had been previously released for allegedly assaulting a social worker, according to various sources.
Since 2016, the individuals involved have accumulated 22 arrests and there are 53 total criminal cases in Cook County dating back to 1993, with nine leading to felony guilty pleas. However, only two of these resulted in prison time.
He faces charges of aggravated assault after allegedly knocking a female social worker unconscious at a psychiatric facility last August. Court documents indicate that, despite prosecutors urging continued detention, a judge released him with electronic monitoring. Under the arrangement, he could only leave his residence on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Woman Set on Fire on CTA Train During Dispute
As for the incident itself, a 26-year-old woman was on a Chicago Transit Authority train around 9:25 p.m. when an argument broke out with a man. This confrontation escalated, leading to him pouring a flammable liquid on her and igniting it.
After the train came to a stop, the suspect fled, while the woman managed to exit the train but collapsed on the platform. Thankfully, the fire was put out before first responders arrived on the scene.
She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to severe burns. Currently, there isn’t an update available on her status.
Neither the suspect nor the judge involved has been publicly identified yet, as charges related to the train incident have yet to be filed.
Authorities took the individuals involved into custody on Tuesday afternoon, amid this ongoing situation.
