Man with machete killed by police; mother and grandparents found dead

Authorities in Piscataway, New Jersey, reported on Tuesday that a man armed with a machete fatally attacked his mother and grandparents before being shot by police on Monday. According to the local newspaper, the suspect’s father was the one who called 911.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found the suspect still wielding the machete. Attempts to subdue him with a Taser were unsuccessful, and he charged at one of the officers, who then opened fire, resulting in the suspect’s death.

After the incident, three individuals were found deceased inside the home. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has initiated an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Their press release stated that the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which occurred on January 5, 2026.

Preliminary details indicate that police had responded to a 911 call referring to an armed individual. The release notes that officers encountered the suspect at the residence and subsequently shot him as he posed a threat.

There is a legal requirement in New Jersey for the Attorney General’s Office to investigate any deaths that occur during interactions with law enforcement officers, ensuring that cases are examined by a grand jury to determine if any charges are warranted against the officers involved.
