Manchin considers re-registering as Democrat to run for president

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia said, Re-registered as a Democrat So that he can run for president.

Manchin, who left the Democratic Party in May and registered as an independent, said Sunday he was considering re-registering with his original party and running for president, Fox News confirmed.

“He’s going to leave a legacy unlike many of us of being the most accomplished and unquestionably patriot and American,” Manchin said of Biden during an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week.” “And so it’s with a heavy heart that I think it’s time for him to pass the baton to a new generation.”

As Politico previously reported, Sen. Manchin privately expressed serious concerns to Biden allies, including Sen. Chris Coons (D-Dela.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), shortly after the debate, but decided to cancel his appearance on Sunday’s show. By doing so, Manchin reportedly intended to give Biden time to decide the issue for himself, but the senator reversed course.

Manchin’s surprise decision to switch from Democrat to independent in May came amid reports that he was being encouraged to run for governor. West Virginia The election was run by moderate Republicans unhappy with the Republican candidate, state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, and ahead of a deadline for independents to run in West Virginia.

Asked about the reports in late May, Manchin downplayed the rumors but didn’t rule them out, saying that Democratic candidate Huntington Mayor Steve Williams was a friend.

West Virginia MetroNews reported, citing sources close to the senator, that at least 20 “well-funded” Republicans have encouraged Manchin to run for governor.

Since the article was published, Manchin has come under fire from enthusiasts at an event at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, which is famously owned by the state’s current governor, Democrat-turned-Republican Jim Justice, who is term-limited and is currently the Republican candidate to succeed Manchin for the Senate, according to WVMetroNews.
