Biden announced his son's pardon late Sunday, claiming in a statement that the charges against him, including three felonies related to the purchase and possession of a firearm in 2018, were politically motivated.
“No reasonable person considering the facts of Mr. Hunter's case could come to any other conclusion than that Mr. Hunter was chosen solely because he is my son. That is wrong,” Biden said. said.
“Efforts have been made to break through Hunter's five-and-a-half years of sobriety, even in the face of relentless attacks and selective prosecution,” he added. “They tried to break Hunter, and they tried to break me too—and there's no reason to believe it'll stop here. Enough is enough.”

President Trump responded negatively to the pardon on Sunday through a post on Truth Social.

The former president has experienced his fair share of legal troubles in recent years, including two federal lawsuits over classified documents and efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Special Counsel Jack Smith recently moved to dismiss both federal cases, citing the Department of Justice's (DOJ) policy against prosecuting sitting presidents. President Trump praised Smith's actions on his Truth Social platform last Monday.
“These lawsuits, like every other lawsuit I've been forced into, are empty and lawless and should never have been filed,” Trump said on his platform, Truth Social. said.
“More than $100 million of taxpayers' money is being wasted in a fight between Democrats and their political opponents, ME. Nothing like this has ever happened in our country before,” Trump added.
