Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is asking a New York court to deny former President Trump’s request Thursday to postpone his trial.

Bragg’s filing comes after new documents were discovered about Trump’s alleged hush-money payments. Judge Juan Melchan agreed to impose a 30-day adjournment to allow document review and set a trial date for April 15.

Trump’s lawyers argued that delay alone is not enough. They argue that the newly discovered documents violate discovery policies, warranting a 90-day delay.

Mr. Bragg’s Thursday filing sought to refute that request, saying it was simply a ploy by Mr. Trump’s legal team to delay the case for as long as possible.

“Defendants’ charges of discovery violations apply to the only issue actually raised here, namely the late arrival of potentially relevant evidence from sources outside the People’s direction and control.” “It distracts from the question of how courts should respond,” Bragg wrote.

“In this matter, the appropriate remedy is the short adjournment already granted by this court, which the parties have found in the USAO’s recent and limited number of relevant records that the public has good reason to believe.” “Therefore, this court should deny defendants’ request for more extreme sanctions,” the complaint continued.

The U.S. Department of Justice said much of the material was unrelated to the state case against Trump. Federal prosecutors have already turned over at least 104,000 pages of records, 74,000 of which were originally sent to Bragg’s office but never. Trump’s lawyer.

Mr. Bragg’s office later turned over the 74,000 pages to the defense.

The records from federal prosecutors relate to a federal investigation that touched on hush money issues and led to a prison sentence for Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen.
