The Memphis Grizzlies have played three games since Dec. 26, when they faced the New Orleans Pelicans, winning in overtime.
However, guard Marcus Smart continues to battle an injury sustained during the win, which is quite unique.
Smart, whose left hand was wrapped in tape, told reporters after Tuesday's shootaround that he was dealing with the after-effects of a shrapnel injury sustained while diving for a loose ball.

“When I dove, my hand slipped into the courtroom and the courtroom just took everything with it,” Smart told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “Last night, [the sore] It kept getting reopened. Every time the ball hit me, blood would gush out. ”
“When I caught the ball, by the time I got enough feel back, it was time to make a play, shoot or drive,” Smart added. “I haven't put any Band-Aids on it or anything, but it doesn't stay there. It just opens up again and keeps opening up again. Every time I close it, it opens up again.”
During the televised game, Smart was seen getting the attention of a team trainer, who appeared to pull the shrapnel from Smart's hand.

Smart removed the bandage from his hand and showed reporters his condition, one of whom described the wound to the Daily Memphian as “severe.” The report added that it was about the size of a ping pong ball.
Despite the pain and hassle in his hands, Smart has no intention of taking any time off. He is expected to play in Tuesday night's home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

However, since the win over the Pelicans, Memphis has not been able to add to its winning streak. Although it was a three-game losing streak, Smart continued to perform well, averaging 17 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
