Former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson on Thursday. announced Her campaign for chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Williamson, who ran for president in 2020 and 2024, launched his bid to become DNC chairman on November 5th in an effort to correct the devastating losses suffered by the Democratic Party.
“This year's DNC chairman election feels different than previous years,” Williamson said. “Until now, the party was definitely facing defeat. But our strategy still basically worked. The seas were rough at times, but our ship was stable. I did.”
“This year, the party faces some of the most significant challenges it has ever faced,” Williamson continued. “The MAGA phenomenon is currently calling into question the very way politics is done in America, and the toolkit of traditional political party organizations is inadequate to cope with these times.”
“In fact, it's important to recognize the psychological and emotional dimensions of Mr. Trump's appeal,” Williamson continued. “We need to understand it in order to generate the energy to counter it.”
Williamson recognizes that the only political viability going forward for Democrats is to reinvent their strategy and abandon the social and political policies that have alienated people. Instead of continuing to demonize and discredit President-elect Donald Trump, Williamson urges Democrats to try to understand his appeal.
“President Trump ushered in an era of political theater, a collective adrenaline rush that not only moved large groups of people into his camp, but also drove large groups of people away from ours.” said Mr Williamson. “It is not helpful to underestimate the historic nature of what he accomplished.”
“In fact, it's important to recognize the psychological and emotional dimensions of Mr. Trump's appeal,” Williamson continued. “In order to generate the energy to counter it, we need to understand it. MAGA is clearly a 21st century political movement and will not succumb to a 20th century toolkit.”
Williamson is not the only Democrat eyeing a leadership role at the DNC. Gun control activist David Hogg announced He announced in early December that he would run for vice chair of the DNC.
Like Mr. Williamson, Mr. Hogg has criticized the Democratic Party's performance in recent elections.
“You raised an outrageous amount of money.” Hogg said Harris camp. “This was our race. [win]and we lost it. And it's time to really peel back the curtain and say, “Okay, what did we do wrong?” As well as protecting the consultants who brought us to this place in the first place. ”
