Quebec:
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday said he could bring the election campaign to Quebec, protecting states that mostly speak French from US President Donald Trump.
Polls show that the Liberal Party has a narrow lead over the Conservatives ahead of the April 28 election, which says Carney is one of the most important in Canadian history.
Those who want to gain power must do well in Quebec, home to the independence movement dedicated to protecting the role of France and local culture, with the second largest number of seats in the House of Representatives after Ontario and the home of independence movements.
Trump imposes tariffs on imports from Canada and meditates on the country’s annexation.
“This threat is not only an economic threat, it’s an existential threat. President Trump makes it clear that Quebeca’s clear identity is threatening,” Carney said at a campaign event in the city of Trois-Rivierres.
“We can protect Quebec, protect sovereignty, build Canada strong… If you want a strong government that protects Quebec and stands up against Donald Trump, you have to vote for it,” he said.
The Trois-Rivieres is one of several Quebec parliamentary districts where three political parties challenge the vote and is an important liberal target.
In the 2021 election, separatist Brock Quebecoa won Trois Rivieres with 29.5% of votes ahead of the Conservatives and 28.6% of Liberals.
Workers in the liberal campaign on earth say there are clear indications that they will switch votes as Bullock supporters see Carney as the best person to stand up to Trump.
In a three-day Nanos poll released Tuesday, the Liberal Party was public support of 42.6% nationwide, with conservatives at 37.1%. The new left-leaning Democrats who competed with liberals for the central left vote dragged at 10.4%.
Such a result on Election Day would give the Liberals the majority of the 343 seats in the House.
The 1,308 Nanos poll was conducted from April 19th to 21st, and is believed to be accurate within 19 of the 20.
Conservatives issued an economic plan on Tuesday, focusing on tax cuts and spending cuts. The plan calls for a budget deficit of $31.4 billion from 2025-26, with the government’s forecast for December being less than $42.2 billion.
The plan “can reverse the disastrous liberal record, cut the costs of food and housing, keep more of what you earn, and kill inflation so that your dollars go further,” the party said in a statement.
Carney said that the liberal government could recover its fiscal surplus in four or five years if everything goes to the plan. Government duties last up to four years.
