Mark Cuban: Trump 'talks a good game' on economy

Mark Cuban said Wednesday that former President Trump “says nice things” about the economy, but “that doesn't mean he's going to get the job done.”

“Why is there the perception that President Trump is having a positive effect on the economy?” MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace asked the billionaire investor and TV personality on “Deadline: The White House.”

“He's a great salesman,” Cuban replied. “He talks a lot, but he doesn't follow through and he doesn't follow through.”

Cuban's comments came in response to the former president's recent criticism of John Deere, who he threatened with heavy tariffs if the company outsourced some of its manufacturing to Mexico.

“This lack of understanding towards business is insanity,” Cuban said in a post on the social platform X on Monday. “Imposing 200% tariffs on American companies that move part of their production to Mexico is insane.[.] But if you put a 10% or 20% tariff on Chinese manufacturers, Chinese products will sell for less in the U.S. than American companies.”

During the MSNBC interview, Cuban again referenced Trump's comments about John Deere.

“He threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on John Deere,” Cuban said. “That's not going to help John Deere's business. In fact, it's only going to make it easier for Chinese companies to compete with John Deere, even after the 10 or 20 percent tariffs are imposed.”

Cuban has supported Vice President Harris for the White House, describing her as “pro-business.”

“She's a good CEO who says, 'I have a responsibility to my shareholders, so I need to get this right and I need to do it the right way,'” Cuban said of the vice president in an MSNBC interview. “You couldn't be more different between the two candidates.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for a response to Cuban's recent comments.
