Mark Cuban Declines Presidential Bid, Clarifies Conditions

On Friday, Mark Cuban, the former “shark” investor, made it clear that he won’t pursue a presidential run unless Donald Trump attempts a third term in office. Cuban, who previously supported Kamala Harris’ campaign, is among several outsiders considered for the 2028 race but expressed hesitations during a conversation on the Semer Podcast.

“I’m not going to do that,” Cuban stated emphatically. “The only way I’m considering it is if Trump tries to run again; that would change everything.” He shared a bit of context, indicating that Trump has suggested his former vice president, JD Vance, might be a preferred successor. Yet, Trump himself seems to be dodging the notion of a third term, stating, “No, probably not. Probably not.”

Cuban also mentioned personal concerns, noting that he doesn’t want to put his family through the stress and negativity associated with a presidential campaign. His children, aged between 15 and 21, steer clear of the “sadness and abuse” that can come with such scrutiny. “When I’m 95 or 105 years old, I don’t want to look back and think about that,” he said, reflecting on the toll politics can take on a family.

If Cuban were to consider candidates for 2028, he suggested names like Scott Galloway, John Stewart, and Texas Rep. James Tarico. Although he acknowledged the challenges traditional politicians face, there’s a hint of intrigue in the idea of fresh perspectives.
