Political Strategy and the Epstein Case
Political strategist Mark Penn expressed his views on Fox News, stating that Democrats are focusing on Jeffrey Epstein’s case files as a strategic move to draw attention away from President Donald Trump’s economic achievements.
House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries remarked that the push for more Epstein-related documents seems politically driven, especially since there was no similar demand for transparency during former President Joe Biden’s administration. During an appearance on “Special Report with Brett Baier,” Penn noted that, while many Democrats might not care about the specifics of Epstein’s connections, they recognize the political advantage in keeping this issue prominent.
“I think there are a lot of people who are skeptical about what’s really going on here. Why were these documents hidden? Is the president somehow involved? The administration seems to be avoiding these questions,” Penn shared with host Brett Baier. “Democrats see an opportunity here. They might not actually care about the Epstein files, but they want to keep the conversation centered on them.”
According to Penn, Democrats are intentionally diverting discussions toward the Epstein files instead of focusing on positive economic news, like the stock market’s rise, job growth, and decreasing inflation.
“They just don’t want the administration to highlight any improvements in the economy. The stock market is up, jobs are looking good, and inflation is going down. They’d rather talk about Epstein,” he added.
In June 2025, the U.S. stock market saw the S&P 500 increase by nearly 5%, resulting in a 5.5% profit since the start of the year. The labor market remained strong, with unemployment rates stable at 4.1%.
Moreover, inflation in May grew at a slower-than-anticipated rate, marking its lowest level in four years, with consumer and producer price indexes rising by only 0.1% as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Meanwhile, the U.S. economy exceeded projections by adding 147,000 non-farm payroll jobs in June, surpassing expectations of 106,000.
Despite these economic indicators, Democrats continued to emphasize the release of the Epstein files. Throughout Biden’s presidency, calls for transparency were largely overlooked, and in 2019, speculation surrounding Epstein’s death was dismissed as a “baseless conspiracy theory” by the Democratic National Committee.
